Android Phone - Nexus 7 vs. iPad Mini 2

The Smartphone giants, Apple and Google have been standing up against each other for quite some time now. Both these companies have been literally at war with each other. The desire for supremacy in the smartphone industry has brought many companies at war with each other. New and updated products are being released every other day, in order to claim the highest seat in the smartphone arena. As expected, the year 2013 was to bring new releases from both these companies, and they did release new tablets for the masses.

Google released the Nexus 7 in the year 2013, which proved to be a popular tablet with the masses. The tablet came at an unbeatable price, provided a different platform experience and came equipped with high-end features and specifications. On the other hand, Apple Incorporated, came up with iPad Mini 2, incorporating much-awaited Retina Display, in order to prove the world that: Apple stays with the times. However, the tablet also came up with standard software and hardware upgrades.

However, the difficult part is to find the right tablet suiting your requirements and is worth the money spent. Both the smartphones come at a heavy price, with the Retina Display equipped iPad Mini 2 tablet being slightly on the higher side. For people searching for compact tablets, the Nexus 7 and the iPad Mini 2 would be an ideal choice. Let us compare the two in terms of their design and display.

Design

It is but obvious that the cost of both these tablets makes a heavy impact on their design. And rightly so, the iPad Mini 2 comes at a heavy price than the Nexus 7 tablet. The Retina Display of the iPad Mini tablet adds a premium element to it, which comes in a robust aluminium casing. On the other hand, the Nexus 7 may not be equipped with magnificence, as that of the iPad Mini, but the tablet catches the eye with its soft touch matte finish. Regardless, the Nexus 7 does not compare to the premium looking build of the iPad Mini 2 handset.

The smaller screen of the Nexus 7 tablet is perfect for small hands. The size of Nexus 7 is more form-fitting and comfortable to hold in the hands, especially for single hand operations. In comparison, the Apple’s tablet comes in a broad stature. The user may not feel comfortable holding the tablet with one hand. The iPad Mini requires the user to stretch the hand in order to hold the device firmly. However, it is uncomfortable to hold the iPad Mini 2 tablet.

Regardless, both tablets come in a design that is appealing, depending on personal preference. In case, you were looking for premium elements and futuristic design, you could settle for iPad Mini 2 tablet. However, the small size of the Nexus 7 tablet offers the user with a combination of compact figure and modest appearance.

Both these tablets feature similar ports and set of buttons around the trims. In particular, both the tablets consist of power button, 3.5mm head jack, microphones, volume controls and power and data ports.

Despite being small tablets, both come equipped with flashy cameras. The rear 5MP camera in both the handsets comes along a LED flash and auto focus features. The front 1.2MP camera in both the handsets comes with standard configurations.

Display

In terms of display, the iPad Mini comes with a 7.9-inch IPS LCD screen featuring Retina Display, having a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. The higher resolution provides the user with a higher pixel density of 324-ppi. In comparison, the 7-inch IPS LCD display of the Nexus 7 cannot be ruled out easily. The resolution may be less at 1920 x 1200 pixels, but the pixel density is almost similar, at 323-ppi, to that of iPad Mini tablet. Both the tablets have the ability to produce sharp visuals.

However, the Retina Display of the iPad Mini provides the user with warm colors, as compared to the natural tone of the Nexus 7 display. Both offer great outdoor visibility with powerful brightness outputs and extensive viewing angles. Choosing a better display between the two could be a daunting task, as both exude similar and exquisitely pleasant qualities.
