Welcome to New Techno. Without any doubt, Sony scored big time with the successor of the Xperia Z2, making it water and dust resistant (IPS67 certified) like the previous model and offering a smaller version called Xperia Z3 Compact, with reduced components for those fans who can’t afford to buy the Z3. Against Sony’s flagship are fighting three other excellent smartphones: Samsung’s Galaxy S5 (IPS67 rated), LG’s G3 and Motorola’s X 2014 model, which is splash proof.
Designs and Dimensions
The Xperia Z3 smartphone looks almost the same as its predecessor but it was equipped with two visible speakers on top and below the screen. The previous model has its speakers integrated between the frame and display. The device weights 152grams, it’s available in four colors and measures 146x72x 7.3mm. The back and the front panel are covered with shatterproof glass and the frame is metallic, and this is why the phone weights so much.
The Galaxy S5 smartphone has its unique polycarbonate rear panel with perforated dots, rounded edges and corners, it weights 145grams and measures 142×72.5×8.1mm.
The LG G3 smartphone has a brushed-metal back panel with an aluminum frame, its body dimensions are 146.3×74.6×8.9mm and its weight is 149grams.
The Moto X smartphone 2014 has a curved backing design and the real panel remind us of the Moto E. This phone weights less than its opponents, 144grams, while its dimensions are 140.8×72.4x10mm.
The last three phones are using Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection against scratches.
Displays
The LG G3 has the biggest screen here, measuring 5.5inches, which makes it a phablet. The True HD-IPS + LCD screen supports the highest resolution – 1440x2560pixels along with 534ppi. The Xperia Z3 and the Moto X 2014 have in common a display of 5.2inches, which supports a resolution of 1080x1920pixels with 424ppi, but one device is using IPS LCD technology, while the other has opted for an AMOLED screen. Lastly, the Galaxy S5 comes with a 5inches Super AMOLED whose resolution is the same as the one supported by the previous two phones, but the pixel density is higher at 432ppi.
Hardware
All four smartphones are equipped with a quad core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 processor based on a Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 chipset and are using an Adreno 330 GPU.
While the Moto X 2014 has two variants of unexpandable internal memories of 16 and 32GB and 2GB of RAM, the rest of the phones support micro SD card slots for expansion up to 128GB of storage. However, the LG G2 has 16GB of storage and 2GB of RAM and another variant of 32GB of memory and 3GB of RAM, while the Xperia Z3 and the Galaxy S5 come with two variants of 16 and 32GB. The Xperia Z3 is more privileged to carry 3GB of RAM, while the Samsung device has 2GB of RAM.
While the Galaxy G5 is released from the fabric with Android v4.4.2 (KitKat), the other phones come with Android v4.4.4 (KitKat), but the Moto X 2014 will receive the Android L before them.
Cameras
The Xperia Z3 impresses with its 20.7MP rear camera, being followed by the Galaxy S5, which sports a 16MP back snapper. The other two phones have 13MP back cameras.
In addition, the Galaxy S5 and the LG G3 bring phase detection, while the Moto X has dual-LED flash, instead of single LED flash, like the others. Plus, the LG G3 comes with optical image stabilization.
According to GSMarena, the secondary cameras of these smartphones have resolutions between 2 and 2.2MP.

Batteries
The descending order of battery capacities puts the Xperia Z3 on top of the list (3100mAh), but it’s the only smartphone between them with a non removable battery. It’s followed by the LG G3 (3000mAh), Galaxy S5 (2800mAh) and on the last position we’ll find the Moto X 2014 (2300mAh).
